Nettle Leaf

Sprig of fresh green stinging nettle leaves on pale stone

The weed that earned its place in the bottle.

Also known as: Urtica dioica leaf extract · Stinging nettle

What it is
An extract of stinging nettle leaf, used in traditional skin and scalp preparations for centuries and rich in minerals, flavonoids and silica.
Why it's in the formula
It is the clarifying botanical next to the charcoal: astringent enough to help keep oil and buildup in check, mild enough that it does not deplete the barrier doing it. The sting is in the fresh plant's hairs, not in the extract.
Where it comes from
Water-based cosmetic-grade leaf extract; no sting survives processing.
What to know
Well tolerated. No irritation from the extract; patch test if you react to botanicals generally.
